Olympus Stylus 1050 SW, the latest successor to its series of waterproof SW cameras, has claimed its popularity with the company's new feature, the tap control. Released in 2008 at a low price, it was the first in the SW line to be developed with the Olympus tap control, enabling easy change in camera keys by easily tapping its top, back, and side. Its body is sensitive to touch, making its camera settings, such as shadow adjustment, flash mode, and playback easier to access without pushing the buttons in most important experiences. The new SW added in the list also features the established and prided camera capability of Olympus, a waterproof and shockproof rugged body of a pocket camera that can survive cold 5-feet drop and any cold locations down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, and can stand water pressure with depth of up to 10 feet while capturing photos. The photographer is likely to give up first when challenging the optimum Stylus 1050 SW capacity. Apart from the Tap Control Technology, the cameras sliding lens cover is hard to ignore; the cover easily and quickly slides over the flash and the lens to turn off the camera, and slides down when the camera is turned on. This is a new innovative feature introduced in this model, its Stylus predecessors having electronic lens cover. Even then, it raises the disadvantage of constantly sliding up when put in tight pockets and catching sand over the cover, making the cover difficult to open or close. The camera impressively features an Olympus branded 2.7 inch LCD display with 230,000 resolutions, ten megapixel sensors, and three-time optical zoom for imaging, framing, and reviewing photos. Unfortunately, this model does not have an image viewfinder and its screen is not touchscreen. This device does not also feature any mechanical image stabilization; instead, it has the company branded Digital Image Stabilization, which only increases ISO sensitivity and shutter speed, and reduces image noise levels. The Stylus 1050 SW has the improved built-in features and capabilities expected, being the latest addition to the SW line. Though not advanced with the shooting options, it still has the Auto mode which controls most functions and a Program AE mode with the symbol of a camera on the mode dial which gives shooting-guide selections such as metering, white balance, focus, and exposure compensation. An LED is also present in between the lens and flash that can be used in capturing dimly lighted subjects. It also allows a live multi-frame preview for before any photo-shoot and video-shoot. This device uses microSD or microSDHC cards for file storage and support and can be extended to a maximum of 2GB capacity, thereby providing a better movie mode option. It also comes with a small adapter for data transfer to PC if additional memory space is needed. The Olympus Stylus 1050 SW is an ideal addition to the rugged SW series, which are reputably durable on any wild adventures. They can be loan among kids or toss around with the peace of mind. Though its capacities are limited in camera technology, its most-prided tap control could be a start in seeking extraordinary capturing experiences.
